Premium

Can you gift Premium to someone who already has it?

What happens when the recipient has an active subscription: checking status, how each route behaves, the «cannot send» error and what to do after paying.

Short answer

In most cases yes — but the outcome depends on how you buy it, so there is no universal «the term always stacks» answer. Before ordering, check two things: whether Premium is genuinely active on the recipient’s account, and how your chosen route behaves in that situation.

The point of this article is to stop you before an order that will not do what you expect. The general gifting procedure is in gifting Premium by username; here we cover one case only — the recipient already has a subscription.

How to check whether they already have Premium

The simplest and most reliable way is to look at their profile. When Premium is active, a star badge sits next to the name and everyone can see it.

  1. 1. Open the profileThrough the chat or via search.
  2. 2. Look for the badge next to the nameA badge means the subscription is active. No badge means none.
  3. 3. Ask them about the end dateThe badge does not show when it ends — only the owner sees that in their settings.
Why the date matters
  • Gifting a year to someone who just bought a year themselves is probably not the best choice.
  • If only days remain, the gift lands exactly when it is useful.
  • For a surprise, mutual friends are the usual way to find out the date.

Which route are you using

This question decides the outcome, because the routes behave differently:

Three routes
  • A gift inside Telegram — the app checks by itself and states the reason on screen if it cannot proceed.
  • A giveaway or gift code — codes carry their own conditions, which differ from a normal gift.
  • A service such as StarsPaymee — here the flow matters: username and sign-in behave differently.

Worth saying plainly: Telegram’s public FAQ does not separately document what happens when a gift lands on an account with an active subscription. That is why every row in the table below carries a «check first» note — caution, not bureaucracy.

Situation, route and what to do

Purchase routeIf the recipient already has PremiumWhat to do
A gift inside TelegramThe app checks for itself and shows the reason if it cannot proceedRead the on-screen message — it names the exact cause
StarsPaymee — username flow (1/3/6/12 mo)The service adds the new term on top of the current oneConfirm the username and status in the bot before ordering
StarsPaymee — sign-in flowAn operator handles activation and counts the term manuallyClarify the dates with support before placing the order
A giveaway or gift codeThe code carries its own conditionsRead the code's terms — they differ from a normal gift

If you see «cannot send to this user»

That message usually has nothing to do with an existing subscription. Check in order:

  1. 1. Is the username right?Copy it from the profile. Owners can change a username at any time.
  2. 2. Has the recipient restricted gifts?Telegram allows limiting incoming gifts — it is a privacy setting.
  3. 3. Try a different termSometimes the issue is the specific pack, not gifting itself.
  4. 4. Try another personIf it goes through, the cause is on their side; if not, it is on yours or in the pack.

Other gift-sending errors are covered in why a gift will not send.

Checks before ordering

Three steps
  • Copy the username from the profile and read it once more before pasting it into the bot.
  • Look at the profile badge — that tells you whether a subscription exists.
  • Pick the route — gifts go through the username flow, with terms of 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.

Check the username, choose a term and order.

If the payment already went through

If it did and the result is not what you expected, do not place another order — write first. One message with the following gets it resolved faster:

What to send support
  • The order ID and the time of payment.
  • The recipient’s username — exactly as you entered it.
  • The term you chose and the flow used.
  • A screenshot of the on-screen message, if an error was shown.

Write to @StarsPaymeeSupport. Prices and terms are in the Premium pricing article.

Frequently asked questions

Can I gift Premium to someone who already has it?
Usually yes, but the outcome depends on the purchase route. Check the recipient's status and your flow's terms first.
Will the term stack on the existing subscription?
In the StarsPaymee username flow the new term is added to the current one. Telegram's public FAQ does not document this case, so check first on other routes.
How do I know if they have Premium?
Open their profile — an active subscription shows a star badge next to the name.
Can I see when it expires?
No. The badge only shows that a subscription exists; the owner sees the date in their settings.
What if it says «cannot send to this user»?
Copy and verify the username, ask them about their gift privacy settings, and try a different term and a different person.
Which terms can be gifted?
1, 3, 6 and 12 months — all through the username flow, with no password.
I paid and the result is wrong — what now?
Do not reorder. Message @StarsPaymeeSupport with the order ID, payment time, recipient username, term and a screenshot.
