Is that Telegram Gift link real? Checks before you buy

Visible text versus the real address, finding the gift yourself, why a screenshot is not proof, and what to do about middlemen.

Short answer

A link on its own proves nothing. Being sent a link to a genuine gift page confirms neither the seller’s honesty nor the safety of the deal— anyone can send a link to someone else’s gift. So verify the gift, by finding it inside Telegram yourself, rather than the link.

This is not general account-security advice — it is about one specific moment: someone sent you a Gift link and you are about to buy. Here is what to check right then.

Compare the visible text with the address that opens

In Telegram the visible text of a link and the real address it leads to can differ. That is the most commonly used trick.

  1. 1. See the address without tappingLong-press the link (or hover on a computer) — the real address appears.
  2. 2. Read the domain carefullyLook for extra words, hyphens and substituted letters.
  3. 3. In doubt, do not tap at allYou can find the gift inside Telegram on your own anyway.
What you seeWhat to checkVerdict
Visible text: t.me/nft/...Long-press to reveal the real address before tappingText and address disagree — stop
Address: t-me-gifts.exampleDoes the domain belong to Telegram itselfExtra words and hyphens mean a fake
Address: telegram-gift-bot.exampleCan this bot be found inside TelegramNot in search — not trustworthy
They sent a screenshotA screenshot cannot be verifiedDo not accept it as proof
A request to «log in»Telegram never asks for a login over a giftThis is an account-theft attempt

The addresses in the table are examples only, deliberately left as plain text with no link — we do not send readers to genuinely malicious pages.

Find the gift inside Telegram yourself

This is the strongest check and it takes a minute. If the gift is real, you will find it without the seller’s link.

What to do
  • Ask the seller for the gift name and collection — the name, not a link.
  • Search for that name yourself in Telegram or the gifts section.
  • Compare what the page shows with what the seller claims.
  • If you cannot find it, or it does not match, do not continue.

Comparing collection, number and attributes

Collectibles can look alike, but every copy carries its own marks. Those are what distinguish it:

Collection name

Does the collection on the page match what the seller said?

Copy number

Is the number stated precisely, and does it match their claim?

Model, backdrop, symbol

These three separate one copy from another — compare them side by side.

Current owner

Who holds the gift right now — is it actually the seller?

Why similar gifts carry different prices is explained in what a gift’s price depends on.

Why a screenshot is not proof

A screenshot is the easiest thing to edit. The ownership, number or price it shows cannot be verified. So the rule is simple:

The rule
  • A screenshot is for conversation, not for decisions.
  • Verify every claim yourself inside Telegram.
  • «Do not believe me? Here is a screenshot» does not replace a check.

«Log in to receive the gift» is a scam

Telegram never asks you to log in on a separate site, or to enter a password or login code, in order to send or receive a gift.

Stop immediately if asked to
  • Forward a login code or password.
  • «Sign in with your account» on a page outside Telegram.
  • Enter a seed phrase to «confirm» a gift.
  • Share your screen or install a remote-access app.

The same demand arrives after you send a gift to a marketplace, dressed up as “support”. There is a separate piece on it: fake accounts posing as Portals and other gift markets .

An unknown bot or «middleman» from the seller

Another common scheme is offering an unfamiliar bot or «guarantor» for a «safe deal». Such a middleman is usually the seller themselves, or an accomplice.

  1. 1. Who chose the middleman? If the seller proposed them, they are not an independent guarantor.
  2. 2. Does the bot appear in Telegram search? Not there, or newly created — no reason to trust it.
  3. 3. «Send first, I pay after»Whichever side says it, this is the most common scam of all.
  4. 4. Is there any rush?Time pressure is always a warning sign.

If you already entered data on a suspicious page

Time matters here — do the following straight away:

  1. 1. Check active sessionsIn Telegram settings, terminate any device you do not recognise.
  2. 2. Turn on two-step verificationIf a password was already set, change it.
  3. 3. If you entered card detailsCall the bank and block the card.
  4. 4. Warn people close to youA stolen account is used to message them in your name.

Frequently asked questions

If the Gift link is genuine, is the seller trustworthy?
No. Anyone can send a link to someone else's gift. A link does not prove the seller owns it.
How do I check a link?
Long-press it to see the real address without tapping. Then find the gift by name inside Telegram yourself.
The seller sent a screenshot — is that enough?
No. Screenshots are trivial to edit and impossible to verify.
They ask me to «log in to receive the gift».
That is a scam. Telegram never asks for a login, password or code on a separate site over a gift.
The seller suggests a middleman bot — can I trust it?
A guarantor chosen by the seller is not independent. There is no basis for trust.
What exactly should I compare?
Collection, copy number, model, backdrop, symbol and current owner — against what the seller claims.
I already entered data on a suspicious page.
Terminate active sessions, enable two-step verification or change the password, and call your bank if card details were entered.
